Using Hashtags Haphazardly Can Be Detrimental to Your Twitter Presence

The company did damage control by tweeting in their apology that they didn't know that the hashtag had negative connotations, and they believed that it was simply trending, but is that ignorance acceptable for someone using Social Media to market a brand?
